Strategy 5S

What are the 5 pillars of health
Not all of us can take responsibility for our own decisions. Especially if the changes seem uncomfortable at first glance. We most often blame external factors for our appearance, sense of happiness and health. After all, it's easier to assume that our genes are the blame for our obesity or diabetes (after all, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and mother have it too, if I can't do anything, why try and look for solutions) and bad eating habits and lack of exercise passed down from generation to generation. It's easier to say that you have bad luck, a sad life and a disliked job than to take a so-called "Bull by the horns" and rearrange this life in a way that will give us satisfaction, peace and happiness. Stagnation in the half-measures state is rarely something we really want. At the same time, changes in life often require leaving your own comfort zone. However, life is a constant change, and our well-being and well-being are closely related to our physical and mental condition, and these are composed of many elements.

What is health?

According to WHO, "health is a state of complete, well-being / physical, mental and social well-being, not just a lack of illness or disability.” This definition goes far beyond the general perception of the concept of health and illness. Modern science encourages us to a very "mechanical" perception of health. The development of technology allows you to "dismantle" the body into its first parts and consider disorders in its functioning no longer even at the level of tissues, but cells. Entering a narrow specialization, it's easy to forget that the body is a whole and all cells, tissues and organs are connected by a series of dependencies. In addition, the role of our consciousness (brain, mind) in health is still undervalued. More and more experts are convinced that we are the most responsible for our health and well-being. It depends on our daily choices and habits whether and how much influence genes, microbes or a contaminated environment will have on us.

Elements of the 5S Life Strategy.

nutrition

I. Sensible nutrition

Nowadays, there is no doubt that nutrition affects our appearance, health, well-being and even the psyche. Along with food, we provide basic building, energy and regulating elements for our body. Proper nutrition is the basis for recovery and prevention of most diseases from the common cold through civilization diseases to cancer and even depression. However, the term "proper" nutrition will mean something different for everyone. What we eat should be individually adjusted to gender, age, metabolic rate, exposure to the occurrence of certain health disorders, etc. However, at present, it seems that the basis of proper nutrition is a large share of unprocessed products in the diet, in particular raw vegetables and fruits, and a reduction in the consumption of meat dishes. Correct hydration is also very important.

II. Superior fitness

Physical effort is perhaps the most important stimulant to build immunity and strength of the body. Already in 2001 WHO, FAO and UNU, followed by the Polish Institute of Food and Nutrition (IŻŻ) in 2016, clearly emphasized in the Pyramid of Nutrition and Physical Activity how important movement is in a healthy lifestyle. The modern lifestyle and working mode of many people do not make it easier to maintain the right level of physical activity. Have you noticed that after a bike trip or a walk we often have more energy and feel lower levels of stress? It turns out that physical activity reduces the risk of many diseases such as obesity, diabetes, coronary artery disease, osteoarticular problems and many others. Interestingly, movement even reduces cholesterol to a greater extent than the diet itself. However, the most important thing is to find a form of movement that will give us pleasure, whether it will be running, swimming or walking in the background of the setting sun is of secondary importance. Sometimes it seems that no form of movement gives us pleasure? Then the best solution is to start with small steps, for example, we assume that instead of driving a car to a nearby store for a month, we walk on our feet or give up the elevator, soon it may turn out that we have more energy and willingness to undertake new forms of physical activity and maybe even introducing other changes. Another great way (which may well support the former) to increase motivation for change is to join some community with whom we share our goals (and maybe even something more). In such a group, all members take care of their health and physicality through development in areas such as diet, training, supplementation and motivation.

supplementation

III. Supplementation

In the modern world, it is not easy for the human body. Rush, stress, lack of exercise, sedentary work, stimulants, but above all a poor diet cause an increase in the need for vitamins and minerals. A proper diet, rich in products of plant origin, should provide all the nutrients that are necessary for the proper functioning of the body, however, the nutrient content of food products is influenced by many factors, which is why even a completely balanced nutritional dose may not actually be . Dietary supplementation is a simple and convenient method of preventing and eliminating nutrient deficits. Supplements can effectively prevent many diseases, because they positively affect our health by helping to maintain the homeostasis of the body. Scientific research is constantly being carried out which confirms known traditional applications as well as showing new biological activity profiles of extracts from various plants. That is why it is important to choose high quality products with a natural composition.

IV. Sufficient cleansing of the body of toxins

With the increasing use of plastics, industrial chemicals, heavy metals, radioactive elements and other potentially harmful substances in the world, the impression is that the world is becoming more and more "toxic". Many of these substances affect us adversely. It is also known that many of these compounds accumulate in animal and human tissues. The concept of toxin in the aspect of natural medicine is broader than that used in modern medicine, including the concept of low doses of potentially harmful substances and unnecessary waste products. Cleansing the body as part of a holistic approach to health is used in traditional medicine such as Indian Ayurveda, Chinese medicine, and currently used in naturopathy (in the US as much as 92% of qualified naturopaths recommend cleansing their patients). The human body has a whole range of mechanisms to expel harmful substances. The liver, kidneys, skin, digestive and respiratory systems play an important role in getting rid of unwanted substances. It is known that plant substances have a detoxifying effect, preventing the absorption and removing various harmful substances from the body. Examples of this type of plant are, among others: cistus, garlic, graviola, and even seemingly common - red beet. Substances that help cleanse the body of heavy metals are contained in fruits such as apples, grapes and citruses. Chlorella and the chlorophyll obtained from it seem to deserve special attention. This algae can be useful in supporting the removal of heavy metals from the body, but also has a positive effect by supporting removal from the body and preventing the absorption of compounds belonging, among others for pesticides, dioxins and industrial chemicals. Therefore, it seems that a tool rich in fruits and vegetables can be a tool for cleansing the body. Water is also extremely important, as its proper consumption allows leaching of toxins, including unnecessary waste products from the body.

V. Stress Management

Everything starts and ends with a headache. Most of us have probably heard of the so-called a placebo effect, when a positive attitude and belief that something will help us can work wonders. Unfortunately, it works both ways. In addition, unloaded stress leads to the formation of diseases that are then clinically diagnosed. And stress in our lives is ubiquitous and cannot be avoided. However, if we cannot avoid stress or negative emotions, what can we do about it? Here, the skill of constructive, positive thinking and stress relief is invaluable. The main thing is that our negative emotions do not accumulate. Various relaxation techniques help maintain proper mental hygiene. Our psyche is also responsible for motivation. It should be remembered that sudden and drastic changes quickly lead to discouragement, especially when you have to wait for a positive effect. It is better to make adjustments to our lifestyle gradually, but permanently, so that they become part of everyday life rather than coercion.
